Eva’s Take on Minecraft as History Class

March 21, 2013 by Gwyn Ridenhour Leave a Comment

Eva’s been working with Minecraft this week for history, creating an interactive timeline. She’s hopped on here today to tell you about her experiences. So without further adieu, welcome Eva!

This is Minecraft. (in case you didn’t know) It’s a blocky game where you build and break blocks to survive. I am a bit obsessed, I admit. But it is much fun.

Recently my brother Ian found this video that is asking the question, “Is Minecraft the ultimate teaching tool?” And it pretty much argues the case. So… He showed this to mom, and she wasn’t too into it at first… But then, I was kind of thinking, “You know, this sounds cool.” So then I went up to mom and went specific. I said, “What if I made a history timeline on Minecraft for history?” Apparently, this worked quite well, and she agreed to allowing one hour a day of Minecraft for history timeline making. I did it for the first time and it was very fun.

And then, Ian came up and asked, “Is that Minecraft?” And I said quite calmly, “Yup.” So then Ian went up to mom and asked if he could do it too, and of course she said “Sure, why not.” (For mom’s take on the story go to this link)

I enjoy this new twist on history, I must say.

I hope that you are having a good Saturday,

~Eva
