As the holidays are approaching, I keep seeing folks I love sharing stuff I love! I’ve been passing along some of it on Facebook, but felt the need to consolidate it into one awesome list, just for my hip Santa’s helpers out there. I really love super beautiful and funky geek gifts. And as you know, I’m in love with the creativity of kids. So I have two categories for you today: Science Geeky Stuff and Kid Created Stuff. Here we go!
Science Geeky Stuff
IFLScience has a totally awesome store with shirts, mugs, handbags, phone cases, etc. that are perfectly geeky and fun. But the category that completely won my heart is its jewelry. How can one decide between wearing the solar system around one’s neck or the Fibonacci sequence? Or the Circle of Life? Oh my goodness, I really love all of them.
The Maker Mom knows everything cool about STEM toys, and she’s going to be sharing a lot of them this month, starting with a Fabulous Giveaway. Go check her out, and like her on Facebook and Twitter and all of that.
ThinkGeek is a go-to for science and science fiction lovers of all kinds. Love that shop.
EEME Subscriptions! Give your science lover the gift that keeps on giving with a subscription to EEME, the hands-on electronics learning kit for kids ages 8-12. Click over using the EEME widget on the side of this webpage, and you’ll even get a referral discount (you’ll have to scroll down a bit to find it).
Crash Course – the awesome YouTube series of quirky educational videos has a store! Did you know? You can find it at DFTBA (Don’t Forget to Be Awesome).
DIY has a store! We love their stuff – if your kids are makers, this is the place to be. And if you don’t know about DIY, then by all means, go check it out! They present gads of fabulous making challenges for kids and then reward them with digital and physical badges, and a rich community of fellow making kids.
Megan Lee Studio has some exquisite collectable images of icons representing famous scientists. They’re gorgeous and I Want them All. Magnets, posters, shirts…. They’re very steampunk, which is probably why I love them so much.
Hoagies’ Gifted Education Page has an extensive list of books and games and shirts and stuff if you need more ideas!
Kid Created Stuff
Elementeo – the trading card game that explores chemistry was developed by teenager Anshul Samar (plus he’s a crazy nice guy)! And this gift gets double the cool, because it fits into both the Geek and Kid-Created categories. We have the original game and its updated edition. It’s really fun. Think Magic the Gathering meets chemistry.
Isabelle Rose Taylor – I talk about Bella quite a bit on this blog and on social media, but just in case you still don’t know about her, she’s a 13-year old fashion designer who now has a line over at Nordstroms. The clothes are fabulous and perfect for your favorite tween or teen. You can find her at Nordstroms or on her own website, and prepared to be inspired.
Eva Ridenhour – No list would be complete without my own kids of course! Be sure to pick up your copy of The Christmas CAT-astrophe, her full-color, hilarious picture book starring Kinzy, the charming koala with the huge ego.
Ian Ridenhour – You can find his new CD: Quietly Making Noise here. (You can also listen to samples of the music at that link as well. Buy as a digital download or as a physical CD. If you want a t-shirt or a beanie, send me a note, and we’ll work something out!
Stanley and Katrina – These crazy fun books are written by our young friend Felicia, AKA “Neighbor Girl.” She’s got two titles, and they’re both really funny.
I’m sure there are so many more great resources out there! Feel free to share them in the comments. And happy shopping!
